Here’s a case of a patient returning almost 6 years after completing orthodontic treatment. He noticed that a space had opened up in the last 5 months between two incisors, despite the presence of the .016 SS wire.
I immediately removed the wire and explained to the patient that the gap should close on its own, as it had appeared rapidly and over a short period of time.
The 3-month follow-up photo shows that the space closed without therapeutic intervention. Only a small gap of 0.5 mm remained, and it is likely to close completely on its own.
